My favorite Asanas – Part 1

In this Blog Series I want to present my favorite asanas and their effects on our body and mind.

Today I want to start with this 6 asanas, which are also part of my practice.

A selection of my favorite asanas

Garudasana: This Asana is related to Garuda (Eagle), the famous creature from Hindu Mythology, the carrier of Vishnu. This asana has effects on our Root and Sacral Chakra.

Ardha Chandrasana: Half Moon Pose, also has effects on our Root and Sacral Chakra. I love staying for a couple of breaths in this asana and feeling free, open my chest and just balance my energy here. This asana brings to us both sides, the Yang and the Yin Side.

Parsvottanasana: This Asana is a perfect mixture of stability and bringing balance to body and the mind. It has effects on 5 of our 7 chakras (Crown, Throat, Solarplexus, Sacral, Root). Therefore this asana is inherent part of my practice.

Bow Pose: This intense backbend is such a powerful asana. It also has effects on 5 out of our 7 chakras (Heart, Throat, Solarplexus, Sacral, Root). This one boosts energy and is so much fun.

Supta Virasana: This asana is also called Hero Pose and when you lie in this one you know why. You will also feel a intense strech in your thighs. This asana has effects on our Solarplexuschakra and requires a strong and flexible back. A variation could be to stay up and just sit in Virasana, or just lower down as far as you can, e.g. resting on your elbows. Also a block under your bottom can help.

Sethu Bandha: This backend has effects on our Crown, Ajna, Throat and Solarplexuschakra. This asana is strengthening your back, giving you energy, but at the same time relaxes your mind. I love this one as a closing before Shavasana.

Namaste
