Experiences of my fifth Yoga Teacher training weekend

Last weekend I had my fifth Yoga Teacher Training weekend. This was really a special one.

Topics were:

  • Pranayama
  • Mudras
  • Chakra Activation
  • Chanting Mantras
  • Hatha Yoga Pradipika
  • Teaching standing asanas
  • Didactics

The weekend started Friday in the evening with a yoga practice of round about 1,5 hours, my teacher introduced there Setu Bandha and Pranayama Alternate Nostril Breathing. After the Yoga Session we did a short intro into general yoga teaching techniques.

When the breath wanders the mind also is unsteady. But when the breath is calmed the mind too will be still, and the yogi achieves long life. Therefore, one should learn to control the breath.

Hatha Yoga Pradipika

On Saturday morning we started with a very intense yoga session of round about 2,5 hours. We started with Chanting Shakti Mantra and Alternate Nostril Breathing. Afterwards we did many sun salutations, standing and balancing asanas and my teacher introduced a Mudra called Vipareta Karani Mudra which is described in the Hatha Yoga Pradipika. The session ended with a long version of Body Scan. After breakfast we started with the Teaching and didactics part. After a general introduction into didactics each pupil got an asana to teach. Everyone had some time to prepare. I got Trikonasa, a very classic standing asana.

After lunch 7 of the 14 pupils teached the asana to the classmates and afterwards each one got feedback. I learned so much from teaching Trikonasa to my classmates but also from the teaching and feedback my classmates got for their asanas.

After a teabreak we did a introduction to the Hatha Yoga Pradipika. I really enjoyed reading it, when I compare it directly to Yogasutra by Patanjali I instantly understood the teachings and I really love the body and Chakra focused mindset. Patanjali is also a very inspirational source for me but there are some parts of it which I don’t agree with.

The day ended with some exercises on Chakra Activation and Chanting mantras.

On Sunday morning we did another intense 2,5h yoga session with Pranayama, Sun salutations, standing and balancing Asana and Vipareta Karani Mudra. My teacher also introduced the Asana Chaturanga which was a very hard one.

After breakfast the other 7 pupils teached their asana to the others and got feedback. Once again it was very valuable to see how my classmates were teaching and what feedback they got.

The day ended with a short theoretical session on the Hatha Yoga Pradipika and Chanting Shakti and Shiva Bhajans.
